So, it is
freshman year of college…. I am in a new city, Tampa, and have unfortunately
graduated from my past life of constant team sports. My entire life I played
sports, ranging from soccer to lacrosse. Every sport I played included running.
I have always wanted to run the NYC marathon. As long as I can remember, I knew
I wanted to train for a marathon at some point in my life. A few years ago, I never would have expected for
it to be now. During the middle of my sophomore year of college, I decided it was time. I
spent my first two years in college, training first for a 10k, and then this February
competing in my first half marathon. I began to love training and feeling like I
had a purpose for preparing for these events. Waking up at 5 am to run multiple
miles has become something I look forward to everyday. Running has helped cure me
therapeutically in so many ways. On my runs, I have gotten to know myself inside
and out. Being outside hours on end, stride after stride, has become a routine
for me and a place where I have learned more about myself internally compared
to any other activity I have been interested in before...
Coming up in three
weeks, is the big day, my first marathon. Over the past six months, I began my
training regimen. Honestly, I had no idea where to begin, because training for
a marathon is very different from any other distance running race I have done
before, especially in Florida conditions. I began by researching professionals
training plans, nutritional plans, and just by pure observation. I wanted to start
a blog to not only help other runners, but also inspire others to train for a marathon.
Anyone can do it, you just have to put in the time and be dedicated too sticking with a training
plan. I am looking to not only share my knowledge and my experience but learn from
expert and or more experienced runners in the process. For example, I have been inspired by another runner’s
blog. Her blog is called “Kelly’s Blog.” From her blog, she portrays herself as not just
a marathon runner, but an enthusiastic one. Being excited about running is
something I can relate to, because there are so many more who feel the opposite and see
running as not only a dreadful chore but also conversation starter. Her blog has inspired me to bounce some of my ideas off of
hers for my own. I don’t want to simply write about a race and training plan. I want my blog
to be something relatable and easy to read. Making my blog more uplifting and
exciting would make one more excited about wanting to run, rather than just sharing
a training plan. I am looking forward to see how writing about my running
experience will not only impact my knowledge and success for race day, but how I
can help drive others to their fitness goals. Please feel free to reach out if you have any comments!
